The Rail Trail Relay Rally will take place on Sunday June 25, 2017

by Henry Berkowitz – June 21, 2017

The Rail Trail Relay Rally will take place on Sunday June 25, 2017. Registration begins at 9:15 AM at the Darling Run entrance to the Rail Trail in Ansonia, Pa. (entrance off of Route 362). If pre-registered, 9:30 AM arrival is early enough. During registration you will receive an event T-shirt (if pre-registered), and lunch ticket. A short talk about trail conditions and safety will start just before departure at 10 AM. Anyone biking can leave at any time, but please check in first for your lunch ticket. Lunch will be ready at 12:15 PM and ends at 3 PM, so take your time and enjoy the trail.

There are two options for the hike. If you choose not to cross the creek and instead return to the Darling Run parking area (about 6 miles on flat ground if you walk all the way to the Turkey Path and back), transportation to the picnic at Colton Point is your responsibility. The second option goes from Darling Run to the Turkey path, across Pine Creek, and finishing with an uphill climb on the Turkey Path, Colton Point State Park side, to lunch at pavilion #1. Total distance is about 5 miles. If crossing the creek, please note that there is no bridge so come prepared to get your feet wet . NO FLIP FLOPS. You are welcome to bicycle, if that is your preference, but getting to the picnic will be your responsibility. A full BBQ lunch, which includes fresh fruits and vegetables along with hot dogs and hamburgers, with a vegetarian choice, plus additional side dishes will be provided to all participants at Colton Point State Park’s Pavilion #1. Transportation back to the Darling Run parking area will be provided. If you just want to join us for the picnic, that is OK too, if pre-registered.

This event will give participants a chance to show their support for those battling cancer and honor those who have lost the fight. All money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Tioga County, Pa. Cost is a minimum donation of $23.00 per adult (13 and older), $14 for ages 6 – 12, and free for those under 6 years old. If registering after June 10, the cost for adults is $25 and $16 for ages 6 – 12, with no guarantee of a T-shirt in your size. Additional donations are always appreciated. The event T-shirts are donated by Mountain Graphics. These shirts can be decorated as you wish for those you are honoring. Participants are encouraged to collect donations from your friends and family to sponsor their ride or hike. This event will be held rain or shine, but in the event of extreme weather, call Henry at 814-367-5826 to see if the event has to be postponed.

Please return the bottom section of this form along with your minimum donation to Wild Asaph Outfitters, located at 71 Main Street in Wellsboro, or mail to Henry Berkowitz, 141 Sperry &Young Rd., Sabinsville, Pa., 16943. Checks should be made out to the American Cancer Society and receipts are available.

Please remember to come prepared to ride or walk in any sort of weather. DON’T BITE OFF MORE THEN YOU CAN CHEW. THIS IS A RELAXING, FUN DAY, but the hike up to the top of the canyon is not for easy walkers. You are responsible for providing your own needs prior to the picnic for the ride/hike/walk/run.
