All across Pennsylvania friends and family came together
On Sunday, October 1, all across Pennsylvania friends and family came together for a walk in Penn’s Woods.
Please join us as Melissa Bravo, host of Agricultural Spotlight; and her guest Forester Matt Sampson highlight the walk held at the Irion Lumber property located in Wellsboro in Tioga County.
As part of a statewide effort, “Walk in Penn’s Woods” aims to get people out to enjoy the outdoors, and to learn about how our forests work for us – from recreation and wildlife habitat to seeing the outcomes of timber harvests and learning about the history of lumbering in Pennsylvania.
Lou and Wanda Irion graciously offered to host this first annual event in Tioga County. Visitors took a short 1.5 walk through a 70-acre woodlot, along pastures and CREP fields. The walk ended at the Irion Lumber sawmill, production and warehousing facilities. An absolute gorgeous day in Tioga County was the setting for discussions about general forest management, timber quality, sawmilling, conservation easements, furniture making, wildlife management and a score of other landowner and consumer questions about sustainable use of our natural resources
