Asking this simple question often can have lasting impact
Have you felt discouraged lately? I think if we’re honest, we would all have to admit we feel discouraged on a fairly regular basis. Sometimes that discouragement just comes from some bad news or a bad day. Sometimes it lasts a little longer and you get a case of “the blues.” Sometimes, it could be serious depression. Those struggles are real. God made us to be emotional creatures and we shouldn’t run from those feelings.
But there are some things we can do to help us remember the truth when we’re feeling down: we have a lot to be thankful for. We have been blessed in a number of ways. What are some of the things YOU have to be thankful for? One of the best times to consider that is when you’re not discouraged. Make a list of all the things that you have that you can be thankful for – you might even be surprised at how long the list becomes.
When you’re feeling down, go back to the list and remind yourself of what is really true: you are blessed and loved and cared for. And that leads us to the greatest blessing of all: the blessing of God’s love for you.
