CV girls top Liberty, 51-34

Short’s 20 points lead Lady Indians to NTL win

A game-high 20 points from Cowanesque Valley’s Karmen Short pushed the Lady Indians to a 51-34 NTL Small School Division victory over North Penn-Liberty on Wednesday, January 10.

After trailing 4-0 early, Liberty battled back but struggled to connect on a majority of their shots and fell behind 15-7 after the first.

The Lady Mounties rallied in the second quarter, but were hit with foul trouble and sent CV to the line to attempt 16 foul shots. CV made half of those foul shots, accounting for eight of the 14 points in the second quarter to take a 29-16 lead at halftime.

Liberty came out with 12 third-quarter points, six of them coming from Taylor Thompson, but were unable to close the gap as CV scored 13 points in the quarter behind 6 points from Makayla Vargeson.

Leading 42-28 as the fourth quarter started, CV began to stall to run out the clock. Liberty was able to force a few turnovers, but were only able to make three baskets in the final eight minutes.

CV would go on to win 51-34 to improve to 5-3 and dropping Liberty to 2-8 overall.

In addition to Short’s 20 points for CV, Vargeson and Amaya Walker both finished with 11 points each.

McKenzie Bogaczyk led North Penn-Liberty with 12 points. Thompson and Alyssa Remley both pitched in with six points each.
