Peggy’s Bake Shoppe presents a peaceful place to unwind
Peggy’s Candies & Gifts has been a popular shopping location for sweet treats since it opened in 1987. But their recent expansion, Peggy’s Bake Shoppe (neighboring the candy store) began just this past December – and it’s already a town favorite. But there’s more to this bakery than delicious cinnamon rolls and cookies. Today’s feature highlights a special attraction hidden inside this main street gem: the Mary Wells Tea Room.
“We wanted to use this space a little differently from the rest of the bake shop,” says owner and operator, Mary Jarreau. “While children are enjoying the front [of the store], parents can come to the back and enjoy a little quieter setting to read, use a computer, or just relax and have tea.”
The small, cozy room in the back of the store is decorated in a fashion inspired by Mary Wells Morris – whom Wellsboro is named after.
“We think it’s wonderful our town was named for a woman,” says Mary, “We wanted to honor her here. We try to incorporate a lot of the historical elements of Wellsboro within our shop here.”
Customers can find a variety of hot drinks to enjoy at Peggy’s Bake Shoppe, including a wide array of organic tea blend bags and loose leaf teas. They also serve several varieties of coffee (freshly ground, with the option of pour-over brewing), and their specialty “beautiful chocolate” – gourmet style hot cocoa.
The Jarreau family and staff of Peggy’s Bake Shoppe invite our surrounding communities to come relax and enjoy a warm beverage in the Mary Wells Tea Room, located in downtown Wellsboro, PA.
