MU Trains Young Future Leaders
The past two weeks have held great success for two groups of incoming 9th grade students in the Tioga County School District chosen to be a part of the Summer Leadership Academy. Leading director, Jessica Prickett, has been coordinating the program for the past four years, and she has seen terrific success from the program. As she says, this program is, “A chance for Northern Tioga County School District to come to Mansfield and learn with Mansfield Alum and current Mansfield students confidence building activities, team building activities, as well as positive ways to interact with each other.”
On the Radar – Camp Cadet
Today’s On the Radar broadcast is a network feature spotlighting Camp Cadet. Hosted by PA State Trooper Angela Bieber, today’s broadcast provides an in-depth look at Camp Cadet and how it benefits 12 and 13-year-old students.
Each year, participating cadets are challenged by classroom instruction and physical activities. They are also taught self-discipline and how to work as team players. However, the primary focus of this program is not recreational. The camp is designed to provide participants with better understanding of law enforcement activities as they learn self-discipline, make new friends, and work as part of a team. The discipline-training fosters a positive attitude, which helps many graduating cadets attain goals they once thought to be unattainable.

The cutting-edge, same-day surgery unit was constructed as part of the hospital’s two-story expansion project. Following the completion of the new emergency department housed on the first floor, construction began to transform the second floor into a surgical unit.
Slip! Slop! Slap! Stay Sun Safe
This month our tool focuses on protecting our skin while we are outdoors enjoying the sun in safety. Joining us on today’s broadcast is Dr. Emily Solow, a general surgeon with UPMC Susquehanna. Dr. Solow explained that regardless of your skin tone, everyone needs to guard against skin cancer. “Fair-skinned people tend to be more prone to skin cancer, but that doesn’t mean dark skinned people can’t get cancer, and so it is important for them to protect their skin as well,” she stated. Some of the protective ways Dr. Solow mentioned to keep us safe from the UV rays that attack our skin were to wear long sleeve shirts and hats, use sunscreen with greater than 15% SPF – preferably an SPF of 30%.
