North Penn-Mansfield defeats Canton, 43-28
On Tuesday, January 9th – North Penn-Liberty hosted the Canton Warriors in a wrestling duel.
At 145, North Penn-Liberty held a 6-0 team score, but Canton cut into a lead with a decision from Gleckner over Casey Amaral, 8-7.
At 152, Ward of Canton took an 11-0 major decision victory over the Mountie’s Judson Wise. That gave Canton a 7-6 team advantage.
At 160, the Mounties took back the team lead after Cameron Andrew’s first period pin.
In the 170 weight class, Canton’s Storch took a pin, flip-flopping the team score back and forth.
Canton increased their team score with a forfeit.
At 195, Roch Minnich got a 13-5 major decision over the Warrior’s Ward. It wasn’t enough to retake the lead, due to another Canton victory by forfeit.
At the 285 (heavyweight) class, Justin Kriner got a massive pin for the Mounties, bringing the team score within 3 points.
In the 106lb bout, Coy Wagner and the Warriors’ Landis were tied at 2 in the third period. Landis was in a crab ride, looking to turn for back exposure points – but Wagner limp-arms out and slips back for the 2-point reversal. Wagner took the 4-2 decision, tying up the match, with the momentum in the Mounties’ favor, 25-25.
The Mounties officially took the lead after a forfeit, 31-25.
At 120, Canton tried to even up the scoring – taking the 8-5 decision, but with it, only claimed 3 team points.
After another Mountie win by forfeit, North Penn-Liberty secured the match at 132lbs with a pin from Austin Smith. Final team score, 43-28.
